News  Virtual Injection Simulation for Botox
Inition Create Virtual Injection Simulation for Botox
13/11/06

Allergan, the company who make Botox, needed a simulator to allow doctors to experience injecting botox for treating muscle spasm. Inition worked with In Vivo communications to develop a PC-based haptic simulator to allow doctors to feel an accurate representation of the sensations involved in piercing the skin and the layers of muscle underneath:

1. We designed and printed out a custom attachment for a Sensable Phantom Desktop haptic device on an InVision SR 3D printer. This enabled the haptic device to be controlled by a syringe, producing a more realistic interface for doctors:

1. 3D CAD design using 3DSMax / 2. Solid print-out using InVision SR 3D printer

2. After training to get a feel for the 'real thing', we designed a virtual 3D human bust with realistic muscle structure, to act as a 'Guinea pig' for our syringe-driven haptic device. Sophisticated computer simulation software allowed users the freedom to view the patient from any angle, peel away layers of virtual skin to reveal the muscle structure beneath, and ultimately practice injecting into the muscles:

3. Our designs and devices were used at pharmaceutical exhibitions throughout the year, with enthusiastic reception from the experts in the field:
